The 2020 Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Open Minds Young Voices (FESOMYV)- Youth Activists Programme, which is in its 3rd consecutive year, kicked off on 14 March 2020 with 25 participants drawn from States across Nigeria. Since its inaugural year in 2018, the FESOMYV has produced a group of young, capable, and proactive Nigerians equipped with skills, knowledge and moral values that encourage their activist or future social leadership aspirations. For the past two years, the programme has graduated 44 participants who are working and advocating for social justice, good governance and a more peaceful Nigeria.

The nine-month programme saw 133 applicants with 46 progressing to the interview stage, and 25 applicants selected (13 females and 12 males). The first session introduced the participants to the methodology, presented the upcoming modules and familiarized the participants to each other.

For the next nine months, this group of young Nigerians will learn, unlearn, and relearn insights across diverse sectors including civil society, labour unions, academia, administration, politics, and private businesses. The participants expressed their excitement for the next weeks and months.
