2021 Annual Public Lecture Series of SIRA supported by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Nigeria

"Nigeria’s Foreign Policy Objectives and identified national interests are centered on the promotion of (a) the continued survival, safety, security, prosperity and well-being of her citizens; (b) regional and continental peace and security; (c) international peace and security and the principles of the United Nations Charter" – Professor Ibrahim A. Gambari, CFR, OCORT, Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, speaking at the 2021 SIRA Annual Lecture.

As part of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Nigeria public debate programmes on issues of international relations and security policy, FES Nigeria supported the Society for International Relations Awareness (SIRA) Annual Lecture series for 2021 which focused on “Continuity and Change in Nigeria’s Foreign Policy under President Muhammadu Buhari” and discussed extensively issues security and foreign policy relations.

The Public lecture had Prof Ibrahim Gambari as the Guest lecturer, and he was represented by the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, who was also a special guest of honour. The lecture was attended by experts in international relations, academics, members of the diplomatic corps, captains of industries amongst others.

Speaking at the event as Guest Lecturer, Professor Gambari stated that “Nigeria’s Foreign Policy Objectives and identified national interests are centered on the promotion of (a) the continued survival, safety, security, prosperity and well-being of her citizens; (b) regional and continental peace and security; (c) international peace and security and the principles of the United Nations Charter”.

The paper presented was discussed by Rear Admiral Anthony Isa, former Commandant of the National Defense College, and Julie Sanda, Principal Research Fellow, Centre for Strategic Research and Studies, National Defense College. The session was chaired by Ambassador Joe Keshi, a former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
