Organizing the informal sector in Nigeria

In June 2018 Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Nigeria facilitated a town hall meeting between politicians and informal economy workers and therewith engaging Gubernatorial Political Aspirants in Ekiti State.

This activity was focused on incorporating the Socio-Economic Rights of Informal Workers into the campaign agenda of political aspirants and parties. The meeting provided politicians opportunity to become better familiarized with the problems of informal workers so as to consider and reflect these in their own manifestos and programmes.

Some of the demands brought forward in the meeting include tax harmonisation for the informal sector, provision of safe and decent workspaces, comprehensive social protection cover, basic infrastructure such as clean portable water and investment in energy.
