Sista Sista Book Club by Feminism Lab

The power of reading fosters solidarity and allows for exchange of experiences that others can draw strength from. It is important that we all begin to write and share our stories.

The Sista Sista Book Club is an initiative of the Feminism Lab project of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), Nigeria. The book club for young feminists was established to use reading as a vehicle for promoting sisterhood built on the ideals of feminism and to build the capacity, self-esteem, and agency of young girls and women in Nigeria.

The close out session for the year held on the 17th of November 2022 and the Author of the month Ndidi Chiazor-Enenmor was present as the girls discussed her book “If they Tell the Story”.

There was also a keynote address from Eketi Edima Ette who discussed expressly the power of reading and harnessing it as young girls. “We’ve been raised and groomed as young girls to be uncertain about our choices and that is why we find it hard to make even the littlest decisions, such as choosing an outfit to wear”. She emphasized on how the power of reading fosters solidarity and allows for exchange of experiences that others can draw strength from. It is important that we all begin to write and share our stories.

The session also had Bola Eyinade, co-founder Rovingheights Bookstore who also encouraged and commended the efforts of the book club.

The girls discussed themes from the book of the month and al.so engaged the author in an in depth discourse of the book.
